Ali bin Zaid said:

“I never saw two men behave as if the Hellfire had been created purposefully for them like al-Hasan [al-Basri] and ‘Umar bin Abdul Azeez”

Pigeon of the Masjid – Abdullaah ibn al-Zubayr

‘Abdullaah ibn al-Zubayr (رضي الله عنه) got a name “Hamama-tul-Masjid” (Pigeon of the Mosque) as he (رضي الله عنه) used to spend most of his time in the mosque in prayers.

Asma bint Abu Bakr (رضي الله عنها) said when ‘Abdullaah ibn al-Zubayr (رضي الله عنه) was mentioned:

{{ كَانَ ابْنُ الزُّبَيْرِ قَوَّامَ اللَّيْلِ صَوَّامَ النَّهَارِ، وَكَانَ يُسَمَّى حَمَامَةَ الْمَسْجِدِ }}

“The son of al-Zubayr (رضي الله عنه) (i.e. ‘Abdullaah ibn al-Zubayr (رضي الله عنه) ) used to observe long night prayers , fast during the days, and he used to be called, ‘The pigeon of the mosque’.”

Welcome O death! Welcome – Muadh ibn Jabal

Mu’adh ibn Jabal (رضي الله عنه) said the following when death came to him:

Welcome, O death! Welcome to a visitor who comes when he is most needed (ie death). Those who regret [at this time] do not succeed. O Allaah I have been from those who fear You, as for today I hope from you. O Allaah, you indeed know that I did not want to stay in this world for the flowing of rivers or for the planting of trees;instead I wanted to stay in order to struggle to pray deep into the night; in order to fast during the long hours of the day, while suffering the thirst of the intense midday heat; and in order to crowd around scholars in circles of dhikr (i.e. gatherings of knowledge).
